Volunteering Program

Northwood Neighbourhood Services

The volunteer program started 29 years ago with only three volunteers.  The number of volunteers and the many different ways to volunteer has grown tremendously over the years. 

Volunteering Opportunities Available

Receptionist new!

Duties: Telephone, greeting clients, faxing, photocopying, and any duties assigned by the Administrative Assistant.

Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 1:00pm

Youths

Youth volunteers are required to sit on the Youth Advisory Committee to provide input / feedback on the deliverables and outcomes of the new youth project “Being Different is Not a Crime”.

Seniors

Senior volunteers are required to assist the senior’s Program Coordinator in the Planning and Implementation of the Programs at the Arleta Manor and Black Creek Community Health Care Centres.

Newcomer Immigrants

Newcomer Immigrants who are looking for Canadian work experience and will like to volunteer at the Reception, assist Settlement Counselors with Outreach and Promoting and Marketing of Northwood’s Translation and Interpretation Bureau.

Benefits of Volunteering

Youths

  • 40 hours of High School Diploma can be completed
  • Northwood will provide employment reference
  • Job search and Resume writing training will be provided
  • Volunteer Recognition Certificate shall be awarded

Seniors

  • Will be able to access the programs and services delivered at Northwood
  • Be able to Advocate for fellow Seniors
  • Will be able to plan trips and events and recreational activities
  • Volunteer Recognition Certificate shall be awarded

Newcomer Immigrants

  • Newcomer Immigrants will be able to gain Canadian Work experience
  • Get an employment reference letter
  • Job search and resume writing training will be provided
  • Volunteer Recognition Certificate shall be awarded
